Specialist Dyslexia Tuition
Term time specialist one-to-one tuition is available for primary and secondary aged children in Bath and the surrounding areas with dyslexia or literacy-based learning difficulties. Unlocking Dyslexia recognises that every child is unique: sessions are individually planned to target your child's specific learning needs whilst embracing their own interests to make sessions fun and engaging. Children will flourish if they feel safe, motivated and high in self-esteem. Unlocking Dyslexia offers a holistic approach, focusing on developing literacy skills as well as building confidence and independence. Tuition can therefore take place in your own home or at Unlocking Dyslexia according to the child’s preference.
The first tuition session focuses on getting to your child whilst conducting an informal assessment of their current abilities in reading, writing and spelling. Following the initial meeting, this information will be used to create a personalised support plan with both long and short term targets which can be shared with their school setting. These will be reviewed at the end of each term.
Once the initial assessment has taken place, sessions are planned to be structured, cumulative and multi-sensory whilst progressing at the child’s pace. Each session will follow the child's individual programme, focusing on developing their phonemic and phonological awareness, spelling, reading comprehension and fluency and writing skills (handwriting, grammar and punctuation). The sessions will incorporate a range of interactive activities and end with a fun game to reinforce learning.
